Floatation therapy is a journey of profound relaxation where you lie back, fully suspended in salt water, and as the outside world fades away you are left blissfully relaxed.
Floatation tanks have been used for science since the 1950's. They were invented by John C Lilly, a neuroscientist and psychologist to explore human consciousness and create an environment where all sensory input on the human mind is removed.
The first tank he invented involved wearing a diving mask to block out light and sound whilst completely submerged in an upright chamber filled with water. Thankfully it has moved on from there and is now a place of absolute calm and tranquillity resulting in deep relaxation.
The pod contains warm water and a high concentration of Epsom salt, which enables you to float effortlessly on the gentle currents, giving you the feeling of complete weightlessness and easing pressure on joints and muscles. Soft music plays at the start and end of your experience, with coloured or interchanging light options. Epsom salts are known to aid floatation, much like the salt in the Dead Sea, but they are also known for their health benefits, adding to the therapeutic nature of the floatation experience.
Your treatment at Ufford Park will begin with your host accompanying you from our stunning Spa Lounge down to the lovely salt pod treatment room where your experience starts with soft music. After you have showered just open the pod lid, step inside, lower the lid, lie back and relax. Don't panic there is a handle inside the pod so you can open it at any time. However, the water and inside of the pod needs to be maintained at body temperature, so it is not recommended to leave the lid open. It is surprisingly light and airy inside. Your experience, of course, will be unique to you and you may well need several sessions to fully relax and feel the pods full effect. With your mind free from all distractions your body is free to wind down and relax resulting in many benefits, such as reduced stress, reduced anxiety and improved sleep. You may feel tired after time in the pod. This is perfectly normal due the deep state of relaxation you will hopefully have experienced it is a sign that the therapy has worked.
